Three League Championships

Firstly congratulations to the three ANU teams that claimed the league championships in their divisions:

Pete Baker’s Division 5
Chris Denney’s Division 6
Don Lovie’s Division 8

We currently have the following divisions playing this weekend in finals:

Div4, Div5, Div 6, Div 7, Div 8, Div 9 and Div 10 Blue.

PL/PPL, SL1/2 and Masters 1 & 2 all still have final round matches and unfortunately Jordans Div 10 Orange lads missed out on finals this year – a good effort for a “thrown together at the last minute” team…

PL Participation

It is with some sadness that the ANUFC has decided to withdraw from the ACT Premier League competition at the end of this season. The decision brings to an end a run of six years in the top flight for the club.

The Club has made this decision following John Mitchell’s decision to stand down from the position of PL Coach and Technical Director. The PL Program in its current form was very much reliant upon John’s skill, experience and enthusiasm. John’s leadership of the program also allowed the club to access sponsorship which had previously been unavailable. In John’s absence the Club does not believe it can provide the level of resources required to field a competitive PL team.

Over the past two years the PL Program has helped develop the playing futures of a number of talented players, notably Luke Pilkington who won the inaugural Football Superstar contest and Tom Rogic selected for the Futsalroos at the AFC Futsal Championship. Other players have trialled with A-League and National Youth League clubs through the exposure from the ANUFC PL Program.

The Club thanks John, Marko, Karen and all the players for their commitment to the club over the last two seasons and wish them well in future endeavours. Obviously, we welcome any players into the State League teams should they not want to follow the elite path.

The Club also want to thank Radford College for their support in fielding U18 and U16 Premier Pathway sides as part of our PL participation.
